Yesterday we went to go see Sint. Here's the trailer:

It was pretty lol-worthy and a bit fucked up with some things. I liked the different explanations for Sinterklaas, especially regarding Zwarte Piet.

This is my first Dutch film, and the first film I've seen in a foreign language without subtitles. It was pretty cool and even though I know my level of Dutch has increased tremendously over the past year(s), I wasn't really sure what to expect. What if I walked in there and couldn't understand shit? What if I thought I had a better understanding of Dutch than what I did? Thankfully that didn't happen. It seems I know the language quite well, though the details can get lost on me from time to time.

I feel more confident and am excited about going deeper into Dutch culture. I always felt like an outsider looking in, trying to figure out what goes where. Now I want to be more involved, watch more movies, listen to more songs, and generally do more 'Dutch' things.

So, to all my Dutch friends, please send me your recommendations on what you think I might like. Also, I'm sorry I complain so much about this. Thanks for putting up with me.

Mostly in DutchCollapse )
Sometimes I come across things and realize how awesome it is that I'm not famous.

Teapot and pink banners.

I force myself to think about issues I don't want to think about. They don't interest me and yet I'm concerned about them.

It just goes to show the depth of my shallowness.

There are times when I will think of something and I get this sudden feeling that I'm on the brink of ...reality. If I just continue to explore my thoughts, a completely new world will open up. One that I never knew existed. Like another dimension.

It's during those times that I'm experiencing seizure activity.

Imagine the matrix and the experience of deja vu as it really being a glitch in the system. My mind is trying to reset it self.

My eyes are open.

So, while running I've been trying to listen to audio books. I've only listened to two so far: I Am Legend and Edgar Allen Poe's 15 Short Stories.

I Am Legend:
I started listening to I Am Legend and I found it...stupid and sexist. It turned me off immediately when *SPOILER* in the very first chapter, when the vampires are being first introduced, the main concentration was on how the women vampires would pose seductively and how enticing, yet disgusting, Robert Neville found it. I was like "that's it *throw out headphones*" when later *SPOILER* Neville starts conducting research on the vampires and he observes that he only choose female vampires for his experiments. He then becomes lust-filled but tries to ignore and justify his choices by saying "but I'm not going to rape them." On top of that, all the vampires were stereotypical with their aversion to garlic, mirrors, sunlight and crosses. Oh, which reminds me, *SPOILER* Neville starts conducting research trying to figure out why the cross creates such an aversion and then after he kills the woman vampire he's like "I wonder what happens to Muslims" and laughs for the first time since he became the last human alive.

15 Short Stories:
Okay, first, there was an annoying drone of "creepy" music along with a sort of echo added to the reader's voice which was entirely too distracting and mindless to be able to concentrate on what is being said.

I don't think Edgar Allen Poe would have made it as a writer today. He would try to find a publisher, submit his poem "Alone" which says "From childhood's hour I have not been As others were; I have not seen As others saw;" and his publisher would be like "welcome to the internet age!"

I still like "The Raven" but I wish I would have listened to Homer's version of it instead.

-- My cat is such a pain in the ass.

-- We bought three new plants (trees). They said they were "hardy", so I wonder how long it will take us to kill them.

-- We bought a new coffee table which is nice. We didn't have one before.

-- I thought I hurt my knee because yesterday it was hard to run on it, but today it seems to be all better.

-- On that note, I seem to be getting sore really easily lately. I'm not doing anything and the next day I wake up sore. That's why my knee hurt, because my leg was sore.

-- I'm in desperate need of new contacts and lenses for my glasses.

Do you give your vehicles names? If so, what are they?

My mom used to name her cars 'Betsy' and she crashed every one of them.

Then we named our cat 'Betsy'.
